Cookies on Pacific Bay
Cookies and similar technologies let websites store small pieces of information in your browser. Many sites use them to measure visitors, show adverts or follow people from one site to the next. Pacific Bay does none of that. This page explains the one small thing we do store and how you stay in control of it.
What we store
When you first arrive, a bar at the bottom of the screen asks for your cookie choice. Whichever button you press, the site remembers the answer so the bar does not keep reappearing as you move between articles.
| Item | Stored in | Why | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your cookie choice | Your browser's local storage | Stops the notice from showing again on every page | Until you clear your browser's site data |
Strictly speaking, local storage is not a cookie: it is a small storage area in your browser that the site can read only while you are on it. It is never sent to us with each request, and it contains nothing more than your answer to the notice.
What we do not use
- No analytics or statistics cookies.
- No advertising or remarketing cookies.
- No share widgets or embedded feeds pulled in from social networks.
- No fingerprinting or cross-site tracking of any kind.
Because nothing of this kind runs on the site, choosing "accept" or "decline" makes no difference to what is collected about you. The notice is there so you are told plainly and can make the choice yourself.
Changing your mind
To see the notice again, clear the stored data for this site in your browser. In most browsers the option sits under privacy or site settings, often listed as "cookies and site data". You can also browse in a private window, where nothing is kept once the window closes. Blocking storage entirely will not stop the articles from working; the only effect is that the notice may show on each visit.
Other websites
A number of our guides include links to outside websites. Once you land there, that site may place cookies of its own, governed by its own policy. We have no access to those cookies and no control over them.
Server logs
Separately from your browser, the servers that deliver our pages keep short technical logs, as every website does. That is covered on Privacy at Pacific Bay, along with your data protection rights.
Questions
If anything here is unclear, write to office@pacific-bay.com. The terms for using the site and the contact page cover the rest of the practical details.
